Trump claims that Democrats are trying to cheat him in the election

Image
Former US President and current Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump has accused Democrats without evidence of trying to cheat in the 2024 election. Trump, who constantly talks about the result of the 2020 election he lost, has repeatedly tried to sow doubt about the integrity of the 2024 election and made claims without evidence that Democrats are trying to cheat. Trump continues to peddle claims and conspiracy theories about widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election despite multiple courts throwing away his court cases. On Monday, October 21, he alleged voter fraud would happen in California. “We have some of the biggest crowds you’ve ever seen. I was in California. I’d love to have God to come down and be the vote counter just for one day and see how well we do in California,” Trump said of the solidly blue state. “Did you ever hear the expression that the vote counter is far more important than the candidate and unfortunately we can’t let that happen. We’ve gotta take it...

Morocco says UN proposal to partition Western Sahara is ‘unacceptable’

Image
Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita stated on Monday that a recent proposal by a United Nations envoy to partition the disputed territory of Western Sahara is “unacceptable,” referencing the kingdom’s past rejections of similar plans. During a closed session of the UN Security Council last week, Western Sahara envoy Staffan de Mistura suggested dividing the territory between Morocco and the pro-independence Polisario Front to resolve the longstanding conflict. Bourita noted that de Mistura had made a similar proposal during his visit to Morocco in April, which was met with rejection from the kingdom. “Morocco has not and will not even accept hearing the proposal, because it contradicts the kingdom and Moroccans’ principled position that the Sahara is Moroccan,” Bourita asserted during a press conference in the capital, Rabat. Western Sahara is largely controlled by Morocco, yet the Polisario Front, supported by Algeria, has been advocating for independence since before Spain’s wi...

Nigeria’s economy is not a mess, the future looks bright — Ex-British Council Director

Image
Ex-British Council Director, Roberts Former British Council Director in Abuja, David Roberts, has said Nigeria’s economy which posted a GDP growth of 3.46% in Quarter 4, is anything but m£ssy.  Speaking in a statement, he said: “I lived and worked in Nigeria for many years as a British diplomat and one of the issues that most disturbed me was the sustenance of the fuel subsidy regime. Why would a country with a severe infrastructural deficit invest more money on a wasteful expenditure such as cheap petrol, instead of building schools, hospitals, dams and a national railway system? It is evident that it had to go. We joined the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in saying as much to the Nigerian government. And at long last, it is gone. And everything we said that would happen after it goes is happening. Nigeria’s GDP is growing at 3.46 per cent while Europe is on the edge of recession. Court Dissolves Parallel EXCOs of Rivers PDP, Questions Legitimacy of Governor-Elect Fubara's Candidacy

Image
In a landmark ruling, the Abuja High Court has dissolved the parallel executive committees (EXCOs) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. The court declared that the EXCOs responsible for nominating Siminialayi Fubara as the party's governorship candidate, in the primary were not the authentic EXCOs recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The case, with suit number W/6084, was brought before the court by Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo and Chief Abiye Davies, who represented the genuine state executive committee members of the Rivers PDP. The defendants named in the case were the PDP, along with Amb. Desmond Akawor and Dr. Benibo George, who were part of the parallel EXCOs falsely presenting themselves as the legitimate representatives, and INEC. The court's decision has now raised doubts about the legitimacy of Siminialayi Fubara's candidacy and his subsequent victory in the March 18 governorship election. The entire process that led ...

Osun Speakership Tussle Tears PDP Chieftains Apart

Image
Ahead of the inauguration of the 8th House of Assembly in Osun State next month, intense politicking has continued to take centre stage in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) controlled state. There is a scramble within the party for the office of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.    While some are routing for newly elected members of the House to bid for the office, other chieftains of the party are insisting on ranking legislators in the House to be the next Speaker. Those backing the latter contend that leadership of a state House of Assembly demands experience and understanding of the rules and practices of the House which will only be taught to new members at inauguration. Hence, ranking members who have the required experience should be considered for the position. There are only four ranking members in the about-to-be-inaugurated Assembly. At the moment, sources say the battle for the Speakership in the state is locked between Prince Tajudeen Adeyemi, a l...
