South-East 2023 Presidency And Misplaced Blame on Ugwuanyi

Image
I read with great concern the write-up ascribed to Ohaneze Youths about Ugwuanyi not lending his full support to the struggle for 2023 Igbo Presidency. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has had to endure a barrage of unfair attacks, but I really think this is the most unjustified. Is it the same Ugwuanyi that has participated and represented the interest of the South-East in all the meetings convened by Southern Governors towards the actualisation of a President of Southern origin? Is it the same Ugwuanyi that kept faith in the forum of Southern Governors even when other Igbo Governors disappeared from the scene? Ugwuanyi was in Lagos and Delta and then hosted the meeting himself. Can people be more unfair to one man? I have enormous respect for Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi: he is calm, collected, solid and politically savvy. When he is attacked I feel personally pained. I know this is a man who would always want the best for his people. In January 2022 when Ugwuanyi hosted some Igbo-Haitians who had traced their

Terrorists Release Picture Of Baby Girl Delivered By Abducted Pregnant Woman In Kaduna Train Attack

Image
The picture of the newly born girl delivered in a terrorist den has been released. Recall that her mother was eight months pregnant when she was abducted by the terrorists along the Abuja /Kaduna train route on the 28th of March 2022. Out of the 63 abducted train passengers that were under captivity, only one passenger, the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), Alwan Hassan, was released after paying a ransom of N100m. Thus, exactly one month when the incident happened, a woman delivered a new baby girl. The picture of the new girl was released, on Wednesday evening, by the terrorist group suspected to be Ansaru, a breakaway group of Boko Haram. Two days ago, the news of her birth was trending on both social media and the conventional media where a family member of the woman first hinted that she had delivered at the weekend. Though, the identity of the newly born child was not disclosed until Wednesday when the terrorists released the picture of the baby girl. Clad in a

OPINION: 3 Southwest APC Governors Who May Never Drum Support For Tinubu In 2023 Presidential Election

Image
It’s no longer news that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has declared to run for the office of the President in 2023, what is however news is the intrigue and drama that has followed the declaration. One major drama that has trailed Osinbajo’s declaration is that of his political boss, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed who is also another leading aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress. Many had thought Osinbajo would not declare, as a sign of loyalty to Tinubu, while some believe, it is his constitutional right to do so. Earlier today, Tinubu had met Governors of the All Progressive Congress in Abuja, hours after Osinbajo’s Presidential declaration. A move many consider to be a counter move against the candidancy of Yemi Osinbajo. Immediately after the meeting with the governors, Bola Ahmed Tinubu while granting interview, told reporters, he has no son, grown enough to declare for presidential ambition. In other words, he is not only disowning the Vice President, he is also confirming t

Party Defection: Umahi remain as Ebonyi governor - Court rules

Image
The Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, Friday struck out a suit seeking the sack of Governor David Umahi and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, from office for defecting to a different party. The two men had in November 2020 defected to the All Progressive Congress(APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Following their defection, the candidate of the APC in the 2019 governorship election, Sonni Ogbuoji, and his deputy, Justin Mbam, approached an Ebonyi State High Court seeking the sack of the governor and his deputy. The plaintiffs asked the court to declare the governorship seat vacant on account of the two men’s defection from the PDP to the APC. Messrs Ogbuoji and Mbam also asked the court to order that they be sworn in immediately since they came second in the 2019 governorship election. But the high court in a judgement on February 28 struck out the suit and awarded N500,000 as damages against the plaintiff. Not satisfied with the ruling, the plaintiffs appealed the decision.
