1-yr-old baby dies after school’s proprietress allegedly flogged him 31 strokes of cane in Delta

A school’s proprietress and her son have been arrested by the police in Delta State over the death of a one-year and seven-months old pupil of the school.

The baby, simply identified as Obinna, d!ed at the hospital while receiving treatment for the inj#ry allegedly infl#cted on him by the suspects, who were said to have fl#gged him 31 strokes of c#ne.

Mrs Ogbo, who’s the owner of Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School in Asaba, the state capital, together with her son allegedly br#talized the baby for playing with water and getting wet.

According to Ebenezer Omejalile, CEO of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable People's Network, a human rights group, the mother of the victim disclosed that the suspects t!ed the baby’s hands and legs before fl#gging him into a coma.

The suspects, who were initially in police custody but released due to agreement with the victim's family, have been rearrested on Saturday after the baby d!ed.

“With a heavy heart, we wish to inform the house that the one year seven months old baby finally gave up the ghost this morning. Meanwhile the proprietress' family are still going about looking for who to bribe without considering what had happened to the minor.

Imagine having unqualified persons to operate schools, employing unqualified teachers in the system. Our government should stop prop#gating and post#lating laws that protects some sets of people and enabling mo#sters to operate mushroom schools,” Omejalile said.
