My Story - OBIBINI. Written by: Ama Larbie

Almost every Ghanaian musician started singing in church when he or she was a child and eventually decided to join the music industry when they matured but it seems quite different with
Obibini, better known in real life as Kwaku Boafo, who started singing in his room.
Instead of singing in church, he grew up listening to the records of Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Outcast and Busta Rhymes in his room way back during his childhood days.
Records from the artistes he use to listen to inspired to do write and rap as well. He started writing his own songs and joined a 4-member group called the Ill Deadly Ministers (IDM) when to Adisadel College and that helped him better his lyrics and rap style.
Even before officially releasing his debut single, he had a wide fan base who at a point in time felt he has kept long in being an underground artiste since they knew his capabilities and where ready to support his music.
Obibini is a Hip Hop artiste with a unique style of blending English and Twi in his music, hopes to go far in the Ghanaian music industry, hence he is learning how to sing to help him achieve his mission of informing and educating the youth.
My Story is a new song by Obibini featuring Bisa K Dei which talks about his struggles before seeing the limelight and assuring his fans of his come to fulfill his mission as a Hip Hop artiste and as well educate the youth through his music.
According to Obibini, unlike most artistes who do a one hit-track and vanish into thin air, he said, "most of these vanished artistes refused to be dynamic and don’t seem prepared to learn to better their skills and talents, while underground I was critically analyzing why they vanish and that has inspired me to put away pride and learn no matter how famous I become."
"It is amazing how when an artiste is underground, he puts in much effort to be heard but after getting the chance to be all over the place for some time, instead of learning and preparing themselves to face the world, they just vanish", he lamented.
Obibini further noted that although things becomes tough for most upcoming artistes who do not follow the existing trend of rhythm in the music industry but "I believe every artiste has his or her unique way of composing, singing and/or rapping, we should learn to appreciate our talents than just following trends because if you ignoring your uniqueness to follow the existing trend, though that can give you exposure, what happens when the trending rhythm fades away?"
He is of the believe that GH Hiphop music will grow should people invest in the genre. Obibini hopes to collaborate with well-established artistes including Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Samini, Sarkodie, Trigmatic, Stonebwoy, Manifest, Asem, EL and Chimney Crane among other upcoming artistes.
